The reselling business has so many great side effects for your life. Today we’re talking about one of our favorite side effects or benefits of this flipping business.
This is a side effect of being able to make more money and we’ve been thinking about it recently.
Airport Experience
Recently we were traveling, and I was sitting next to a family with two little girls and a mom and dad. As we sat down, a little girl was coughing and the dad seemed self-conscious about it and was trying to get her to stop. We have kids and I’m not a germaphobe. When you have kids and your kids are in that situation, you’re very much worried about people around you.
Then the mom came back and they started talking back and forth about getting lunch and how the airport food is so expensive. I was just listening to the interaction and the mom asked the little girl to get up and take a picture by the window with the plane in the background that they were going to send to Make-A-Wish. They were wearing Make-A-Wish shirts and I knew what the program was because I’d had a friend with a terminally ill son who was granted a wish.
Right off the bat, I knew this could be a terminally ill kid who was coming here to experience a wish, and there was a little voice inside of me telling me to buy them lunch. I wanted to give them lunch so they could actually buy lunch without stressing about the cost. Melissa and I don’t even like buying food at the airport because it’s so expensive. But I felt like I was supposed to do this, so I asked Melissa if she wanted to get up and as we got up, I pulled money out of my wallet, walked over and said, “Hey, I’d like to buy you lunch.”
I just wadded the cash up and handed it to him and he said, “No, you don’t have to” like two or three times, but I told him I felt like something inside of me was telling me I need to buy them lunch. He took the money and I was so grateful he did. I had extra money in my wallet that I take when traveling and I was able to do this because the reselling business allows you the freedom to be able to do that when you’re not constantly stressed about finances.
Side Effect Of Flipping
This side effect of flipping is the ability to be generous with your money. You can always work more if you need to. That’s the cool thing about this business. You can work as much or as little as you want, and you can kind of control what your payday is each month depending on how much you put into it.
We contemplated whether or not to share this experience, but it’s not about us. It’s about being able to help others and being able to act when you can and we wanted to share that message.
Christmas Side Effect
Last Christmas Melissa and I were able to experience another generosity side effect. We couldn’t do it the Christmas prior because of where we were at financially, but last Christmas we did this. We have the kids write cards and then we fill the envelopes with some cash. On Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, we go out to people who are working on the holiday and give them an envelope. The idea came from Chalene and Brett Johnson who do it with their kids.
We were traveling last Christmas so we stopped in New Jersey at a Walmart for something. We ended up finding a guy collecting carts in the parking lot and we felt bad for him because it was freezing. So we gave him an envelope and we gave some other workers inside an envelope. The kids love it. They go hand off the cards for us and we just watch. Coming from a kid, it’s pretty cool. We’re also teaching them to be generous.
When we were up in Vermont, and on our way down the mountain we saw two workers walking down the mountain. We pulled over and offered them a ride since there wasn’t a shuttle to take them down. They were so grateful and jumped in. As they were walking away at the bottom, we quickly wrote out some new cards and I pulled some travel cash from my pocket to put inside. The kids ran over and caught them before they were gone.
Side Effect: Helping Others
Being able to help people and respond to the voice inside of you to be generous can change people’s lives. We want to have an impact on everybody around us and people that we see. And this business allows us to be able to do that.
Being generous doesn’t have to be just about money. It can be about your time or expertise. Members of our flipping group share information freely rather than thinking of it as a scarcity. There is room for so many people to be resellers.
