We recently sold an item on eBay for $6,000 so we’re going to share what the item was, how we sourced the item, and, of course, the profit.
This was one single flip on eBay for $6,000 and it was what we consider high profit. We only paid $350 for this item. What was it? We sold a commercial dishwasher on eBay for $6,000.
Sourcing The Dishwasher
We found this item while on a road trip. Our goal is to go on road trips and be able to pay for the road trip by finding an item along the way or slightly out of the way that we can resell. I’m always looking on the apps in an area where we’re traveling to see if I can find something to pick up. The dishwasher was on the way home and it was marked for more than $350 but I offered him less and he took it. He was excited to get $350 for it because he knew he was in a local area and he’d have to sit on it. On this trip, I didn’t have our trailer, just my F250 pickup truck.
I think the dishwasher came from an auction because the guy was a reseller and bought and sold chairs and other types of kitchen equipment. He had a warehouse full of this stuff and he had a forklift so he was able to pick it up and put it in the back of my truck.
The trip was five or six hours total and on the way home, the rear end of my truck went out. We had to pull off and wait for AAA to come pick us up, but they grabbed us and towed my truck with the commercial dishwasher.
Negotiating On eBay
It took me a while to get the dishwasher listed because I was trying to figure out how to fix my truck. I got it listed a few months later at $8,999. I thought I was giving someone a good deal at $9,000 because these commercial dishwashers retail between $30,000 to $50,000 at retail price. Somebody reached out to me and asked if I’d take $5,000 and I negotiated back with them.
If they send you an offer for $5,000 and then you jump on it and you take it, they’re like, well, maybe he would have taken less than that. And then sometimes they don’t actually pay for the item and complete the transaction. I told the buyer I couldn’t go that low, but I’d go to $6,000. He wrote back and offered me $5,500 and I stuck to my original offer because I was already coming down from $9,000.
After 24 hours, he wrote back and said to send him the offer for $6,000 so we did the deal and got it shipped out. Don’t be afraid to negotiate on your sales and don’t be afraid to stick to an amount you’re comfortable with.
Total Profits On eBay Sale
This one had to ship via freight and actually went on a bigger pallet. The guy I bought it from had it on a pallet, but I built a crate around it as well.
Sold on eBay: $6,000
COGS (cost of goods sold): $350
eBay Fees: $401
Shipping: $553
Total Profit: $4,696
A lot of people ask us about the eBay fees. For specific categories, you’re charged 13% the first $2,500, and then after that it drops to 2.5 or 2.7%, something like that, for the rest of the sale. It’s for specific categories.
We love only having to go out $350 to make over $4,500. This is the kind of high-profit flip we look for. If you’re interested in learning more about our business model, check out our workshop below.
